Denton Powers of Attorney

When you give someone power of attorney, you give them the authority to make decisions on your behalf when you are unable to make those decisions. There are two types of powers of attorney: health care powers of attorney and statutory durable powers of attorney. As skilled Texas estate planning lawyers, we can talk to you about your options in giving someone power of attorney and help you understand the differences between the two types.

Hill & Hill offers free initial consultations to discuss powers of attorney as well as your other estate planning needs. Contact us online to schedule your consultation.

About Power of Attorney

Our Texas law firm can guide you through the process of choosing the person or people to serve as your power of attorney. Many of our clients tend to name the same person — a spouse or adult child, for example — to serve as both types.

  • Medical power of attorney: In addition to having a health care directive for your physician and family, you should name someone who can make medical decisions on your behalf and ensure your wishes are followed. We encourage you to choose this person wisely, to tell them about your wishes and feel confident they will follow those wishes.
  • Statutory durable power of attorney: The person given durable power of attorney will be able to make decisions regarding your financial affairs, real property, personal property and banking. This person may do something as simple as pay your bills and balance your checkbook or as complex as handle a real estate transaction on your behalf.

Our attorneys know that talking about these types of situations can be difficult. We encourage you to take the time to talk to your loved ones so you can feel comfortable that you have made the right decisions. We are always available to answer your questions and offer guidance as you make the decision.
