Denton Health Care Directives Attorneys
Health care directives are powerful and important documents. They state your wishes regarding ongoing medical care and end-of-life care in the event you are incapacitated and unable to state your wishes at that time. As skilled Texas living wills attorneys, we understand that sometimes thinking about this type of situation is uncomfortable. However, we infuse as much positivity and sensitivity into the conversation and help you feel as comfortable as possible with your decision.
Hill & Hill offers free initial consultations to discuss health care directives with one of our attorneys. Contact us online to schedule your consultation.
Types of Health Care Directives
We are Denton health care directives lawyers with more than 19 years of experience helping individuals and families with critical legal decisions. The directives address two different types of medical situations:
- Directives to physicians and family members: People who are incapacitated, have dementia, Alzheimer's or another type of condition that affects reasoning skills or decision-making abilities may be unable to clearly communicate with their doctors regarding ongoing medical treatment. In a health care directive to your doctors and family, you can address certain types of medical situations now — while you are still able — that may arise in the future. We also advise clients to give someone medical power of attorney.
- Living wills: A living will addresses what you want to happen if you are put on life support. As with the other type of health care directive, it is necessary to state your wishes now while you are still legally able.
Our attorneys understand that the hard work of making these difficult decisions is done in the planning stages. We want you to take your time and talk to your spouse, your adult children and whomever else you need to speak to about this. We think of ourselves as attorneys of course but also as people with families of our own. We understand that you need someone who can point out the legal issues as well as help you work through your decisions.
